Always out of stock when I attempted to purchase replacements cartridges. Very frustrated with your out of stock position. There was no confirmation of my purchase by e-mail as was stated would happen. I almost abandoned the product because of poor support from the company.

Very happy with it but our water is very hard and I was getting a lot of white dust everywhere using only one demineralization cartridge in each tank. Ordered more cartridges. They arrived in two weeks so I now use two in each tank which has helped a lot.

Do I need to use a cartitrdgeif I use distilled water

Thank you for your question.The HoMedics demineralization cartridge will help reduce the potential for white dust, a deposit of minerals left behind from using hard water in your humidifier. Use of high mineral content hard water may cause a white mineral residue to accumulate on surfaces in the room near the humidifier. The mineral residue is commonly called “white dust.” The higher the mineral content (or, the harder your water is), the greater the potential for white dust. The white dust is not caused by a defect in the humidifier. It is caused only by minerals suspended in the water.

Does the filter cartridge release any toxins in the water, is the water safe to drink?

Thank you for your question. The demineralization cartridges are a carbon filter designed to help reduce minerals in tap water and reduce the potential for white dust from a humidifier. The cartridge does release toxins.
